Roleplaying Anime & Cartoon Guidebook
Welcome to the Multiverse
Hello, and welcome! This is RolePlaying Anime & Cartoon (RPA&C), a forum containing an entire multiverse of clans, worlds, and universes. Your actions can effect hundreds of other players, as you decide to fight for either the powers of good, or evil. Or maybe fighting isn't really your thing, and instead you would prefer to roleplay in peace instead? All this is open to you and more.
The multiverse contains an endless number of universes - and you can continue adding to them. While others would assume that a "Final Fantasy" RP and a "BLEACH" or "Naruto" RP are treated as divided storylines, here in RPA&C, they are in fact connected. The events taking place with characters in one, are happening exactly at the same time as the events in the other. The ONLY difference is that these events are taking place on different worlds, maybe even planets that exist in different dimensions.
What exactly does this mean? Well, for one, if by some chance someone were to figure out a way, it would indeed be possible to take your Final Fantasy character, and bring them into the world of Naruto or BLEACH, and vice versa. Pretty cool, huh? The events happening on one world, can have effects on another world, perhaps even whole universes!
In addition, RPA&C is a place that is ruled by the players, and driven by them. You can either CREATE your own world, or instead choose to play on a world already created by someone else. You can even have more than one character, and place them on different worlds if you want. The choice is for you to make, this place is what you make of it. RPA&C is full of potential, and the possibilities are endless!
The Five Fundamental Rules of Roleplaying.
1. No Reality-Modding - Do not do anything which is logically impossible (ie: using a power that your character does not have, unrealistically dodging every attack thrown at you, or deciding that severe damage taken is but a scratch). When making any posts, you must make sure that all actions your character takes are fully explained out and justified. If it is unclear how you did something, then you must fully explain it OOC when asked.
2. No Character-Modding. The act of deciding your opponent's actions, inactions or moves in your posts. This also includes speech, deciding if your attacks hit your opponent, and so forth. Note this rule only really applies if you fight using traditional orthadox/open style rules.
3. No Power Gaming - Nothing is impossible, nothing is perfect, nothing is unkillable, and nothing is all-powerful or absolute. This applies to all roleplaying situations and characters. Your character's powers and abilities must not be too powerful to the extent that it makes it impossible for anyone to fight them, or unbalances roleplays and spars.
4. No Meta Gaming - Do not use OOC knowledge to influence the roleplay. If someone reads over another’s character profile, and then uses their weaknesses mentioned in it during a fight, this is considered an act of Meta Gaming, unless this person can justify their character being capable of knowing said weakness.
5. No Disrespect - Roleplaying and sparring in particular relies on a mutual respect for each other. Characters may fight and hate one another, but OOC you should hold respect for your opponent. You should avoid insults, and you should aim to resolve any disagreements amicably without the need to call in a judge.
A good rule of thumb to use as a reference when trying to decide whether something breaks one of these rules is the law of common courtesy. Consider how you would feel if your situations were reversed with those of your comrade or opponent. If you don't think you'd like it to happen to you, don't do it to someone else. For instance, would you like someone else saying that YOUR character was trembling in fright, when that's not what your character would do in that situation?
The Rules to Posting in RPA&C.
1. Standard TWC rules apply. 2. The five fundamental rules of RPing must be followed in all PUBLIC and BASE threads. 3. All players who post in PUBLIC topics must first submit their characters in the profile and training topic located here. If you do not submit and get accepted, you will be limited to CUSTOM topics only. 4. All topics must carry a tag depending on it's type. Unlabelled topics will be automatically be edited to carry a PUBLIC tag. 5. All PUBLIC and BASE Threads MUST be listed to a registered planet in the Multiverse World Directory, which can be found here.
What are these topic types?
[PUBLIC]: These threads comprise the Multiverse itself, each new PUBLIC Thread being a new location which is added to RPA&C for players to roam around. These threads have no central storyline of their own, nor do they have a Game Master, someone who creates and drives the central plotline. Players have the freedom to do whatever they want in these locations, even cause destruction, exactly the same as in real life. However, also just as real life, your actions might have major consequences.
You can NOT have the same character in more than one PUBLIC Thread at a time, so in order to have your character go to another thread, you must first state that he or she leaves the previous location. Afterwards, you will be free to use them in another PUBLIC Thread, another location. Again, this is just like real life. You have to leave one place to be able to go into another.
[CUSTOM]: These are "Private RPs" which are started by players either for just themselves, their friends, or their clans. Unlike PUBLIC Threads, a CUSTOM Thread has a central storyline unique to that RPG and also has a Game Master, or GM. The GM is usually the person that makes the thread, and he or she is the person that takes responsibility for making sure that the plotline continues moving. These threads can use whatever rules the owner wishes, though if there are none listed, then it is just generally assumed that the Fundamental Rules are the only ones that apply. These threads are NOT considered part of the multiverse, and the GM can dictate who is or is not allowed to post there. Because they aren't considered a part of the same reality, the events in PUBLIC Threads and the events in CUSTOM Threads are kept entirely separated. This means that if your character dies in a CUSTOM Thread, and that same character is also in a PUBLIC thread, you can keep playing in the PUBLIC thread...and vice versa
[BASE]: These are PUBLIC Threads which signify great importance to a specific guild, whether they be Hosted or Independent. There is nothing different about them from any other PUBLIC Thread, but they represent ownership for the clan which uses it, designating it as their "base". All important threads which are seen as very valuable to clans are listed as "BASE Threads". ONLY registered Clans - Clans which have a Usergroup - are allowed to create BASE Threads.
RPA&C Lexicon.
Role-Play (RP): The act of "playing a role", whereby you interact with others in a fantasy (fantasy in this case meaning 'not real'...it does not necessarily mean that you're confined to a fantasy genre like Tolkien.) background using a character you have either created yourself or have chosen to play as.
Role-Play Fight (RPF): One of three types of RPing, RPF is more centered around combat, the act of fighting others with your character. At one point, this was enjoyed by many as a sort of sport, as it pits you against others to see who is more skilled at tactical and character developmentation. It was originally started back when players were make bets on which one of their characters could win in a fight, and it eventually grew into what it is now. Though each character has their own storyline, the stories themselves are not as important as the character's (and roleplayer's) abilities in this kind of RP. It's not just having an all powerful character, either...it's about who uses what they have to the best advantage.
Story Role-Play (SRP): Another one of the three types of RPing, SRP is the direct opposite of RPF, focused primarily on a central storyline. While fighting may occur during these kinds of RPs, they are meant only to add to the plot as a story element, used for character or plot development in most cases. Some players will even plan things out ahead of time, or even set it up so that their character loses in a battle. Unlike a RPF, whoever wins or loses here is not important, because the most important thing is carrying out the plot. So a loss is only another method of driving the story forward, like a marriage or a death would be.
Clan Role-Play (CRP): The third and final type of RPing, it is a cross between SRP and RPF, an evolution between the two. This evolution comes about because like a SRP there is a storyline, and yet like an RPF nobody is certain how a fight between characters and/or clans will turn out. In most CRPs, the storyline will be planned roughly by several Roleplayers, but because there are so many different Roleplayers from so many different clans working with THIS particular storyline, the plot will never be set in stone. There are also many different types of clans, and not all of them have the same ideals. So as you have probably guessed by now, there are just too many different types of members in any given clan for them to be able plan out a rigid plotline with ONE clan, let alone two or more. Also, you can't really expect all of these clans to be friendly when they meet. Sometimes, they meet and clash, and you have Luke Skywalker vs. Deathstar ROUND ONE! on your hands...also known as a Clan War.
Clan War (CW): A large scale event which happens during a CRP, triggered when one or more Clans declare war upon each other. These wars can either be exceedingly short, or extremely long depending on the clans involved. They usually consist of a series of battles, being waged all throughout the territories where the clans that are fighting each other hold influence. Because you can only be in one place at a time in a CRP, a CW requires that quite a bit of actual tactics to be used, and just like in real life, they won't ever end until one side is the only one left standing, or if the others surrender. All of this takes place within the RP, you could retreat from your base which has just been destroyed by the enemy, and then regroup somewhere else to mount a counterattack against your foes. The war won't come to a close until one side is totally obliterated, or admits defeat and surrenders.
In Character (IC): A term used to signify that you are acting and speaking as your character, and not yourself. This is generally included in your posts in an RP to show others that you are back "In Character" after having just spoken "Out Of Character."
Out Of Character (OOC): A term used to signify that you are acting and speaking as yourself, and not as your character. This is pretty much just the opposite of stating that you are "In Character" and is generally included as either at the very top or the very bottom of your post as a note to the other players in the same RP.
Player Character (PC): This is a character that is used by a player, also known as a "Main Character."
Non-Player Character (NPC): The opposite of a PC, these characters exist as elements added to an RP, also known as "Minor Characters."
Game Master (GM): The person who is in charge of running a storyline. Usually they're also the ones that come up with the storyline, and most of the time they control all of the NPCs within an RP. The GM is responsible for making sure everyone continues progressing the central plot. A GM will only ever be present within an SRP, since they aren't needed in CRPs or RPFs.
